We see fantasy being used in fashion in many ways. The most identifiable way we see fantasy and fashion is through an artist and or a designer trying to convey a story. The way they use fashion could depict a certain character or a certain story.
If we think of fashion in a reversed way we can see that fantasy authors use fashion to symbolize what their characters stand for in the world of the story. For example, a piece of clothing might represent a time period, a change in the world, and or someone's lifestyle or habits. Clothing can reflect a lot about a person in all different ways and we can see this come to life through fantasy novels or movies. If we consider the way fantasy plays into color and how that is represented through fashion we can see many forms of symbolism directed at different things. When considering fantasy, colors are more impactful. We even see symbolism throughout fantasy-related things in relation to jewelry. How many stories have used a piece of jewelry to symbolize or evoke a memory? We can see that fashion statements can tell readers all they need to know about a character.
In relation to fantasy fashion, we can see it be defined as, representing a trend in fashion and design that emphasize fantastical appearance over practicality/functionality and has elements drawn from the fantasy genre of literature and film, often presented in an extreme style of detail, complexity, and precision. Whenever I think of fantasy I think of anime. We see many people being avid anime watchers and or followers and even to the extent of dressing up as them for Halloween. I think that is a large portion of how we can decipher whether things are “fanatical” or not. Fantasy plays a role in a lot of our lives and in many ways.
